Welcome to Building Missouri

Hi. My name is Greg Lee. My Profile say I am "Charlie The Big Dog", But Charlie is my dog. He inspired one of the most popular dog website's on the internet, Dogs With Blogs. Dogs With Blogs is the second online community I have created. The first was the "Ship Model Mailing List". I started SMML in 1997. Building ship models has always been my passion. Quiet often to my detriment. The attention to every excruciating detail has often sucked the joy out of building ship models for me, to the point where I could no longer enjoy the hobby. As a result, I abandoned SMML, and ceased building models.
Over a decade later, I am back on the model ship building scene. There have been three models I have always wanted to build, and now feels like the time to get started. The first model is the 1/200 Nichimo Yamato. You can follow the progress of this build on the sister blog to Building Missouri, Building Yamato. The second is BB67 USS Montana. Montana's construction was cancelled before her keel was laid, signaling the end of the Battleship era. Suggestions that she would sport 12x 16" guns has always created an air of mystery and wonder for me. It truly would have been an awesome ship, and well worthy of a scale replica. To my knowledge, no kit of the Montana exists, so this will be a custom job. I will created a 1/350 USS Montana by sacrificing Tamiya Missouri and New Jersey Kits. Visit Building Montana.
The third ship in quest is a large scale USS Missouri. How large? Well, I have already built this ship in just about every scale commercially available. This will be a "Scratch Build" job, in 1/50 scale, depicting the ship in her final configuration at decommissioning. This blog will chronicle construction, and be a central location for reference material I discover during the journey.

As I am currently "Building Yamato", construction on this project may not start for some time. However, I will continually be adding resources to this blog as they emerge.
